fall makeup trends

New season, new trends. As the temps cool down, it’s the perfect time to pick up some new makeup, and get creative with your beauty looks. Keep reading to get inspired by ten of the hottest makeup trends for fall, plus product picks to create looks that match the professionals.

Warm Smoky Eyes: A warm smoky eye is one of the most versatile looks out there. Pair it with a nude glossy lip, like Emily Ratajkowski, or go bold with a rose or berry lip. Makeup artist Patrick Ta created Emrata’s look with the stunning Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette ($65). This mega-palette features eighteen shadows in a wide variety of finishes (matte, pearl, duo-chrome and glitter). The creamy, blendable shades are all from the same warm color family, making it easy for anyone to create a dynamic look.

Mellow Yellow: It’s fun to break the rules. Fall is usually all about different shades of rust, burgundy and brown. Switch it up with a bold yellow eye. Surprisingly, yellow is one of the most flattering eyeshadow colors. It works on every skin tone, and makes nearly every eye color pop. To get the look Pati Dubroff created for Margot Robbie, pack it onto the lid, then diffuse it out onto the crease and onto the brow bone. Only one shadow necessary – how simple is that?! Try the trend out with NYX’s Hot Singles Eyeshadow in STFU ($4.49).

Pack a Punch: There’s something so fresh and cool about keeping your makeup ultra-simple, but topping it off with an unapologetically bold lip. Take a cue from supermodel Karlie Kloss (rocking a look by MUA Patrick Ta) with this perfect fall look. A few coats of mascara, a bit of blush, some highlighter and a vampy lip is all you need. Want a brick red lippie like Karlie’s? Try Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Maple ($26), NYX’s Matte Lipstick in Crazed ($5.99), or Maybelline’s Color Sensational Lip Color in Burgundy Blush ($5.59).

Glow from Within: Rather than pile on the highlighter, create a naturally glowing look this fall by using a luminizing primer. Pearlescent primers create a smooth, radiant base that will peek through whatever foundation you layer on top of it, and give you an all-over glow. To get the look, like Hailey Baldwin, try one of these incredible products: Becca’s Backlight Priming Filter ($38), Stellar’s Brilliant Primer ($35), Tarte’s Radiance Drops ($32).

Pretty in Purple: The unexpected IT shade of fall is purple. It seems like every brand has released a new product in the royal shade. From Kylie Cosmetics’ Purple Palette ($42) to Fenty Beauty’s multi-tasking Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Unicorn ($25), it’s definitley the go-to hue for beauty daredevils. The breathtaking smoky eye above was created using the new Kylie Palette, but you can also achieve the look with Natasha Denona’s new Lila Palette ($129).

Monochromatic Vibes: Matching eyes to lips is a trend that doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Slightly edgy, but extremely wearable, it’s the ultimate runway-to-real-life beauty trend. For the look above, Hung Vanngo used Marc Jacobs products: the Eye-Conic Palette in Scandalust ($49) and the Poutliner Pencil in Nude(ist) ($24). If you want to make sure the eye and lip shades are an exact match, try a multi-tasking product like Bite Beauty’s Multistick ($24), which you can use as a blush too.

Shine On: A matte lip will always be in style, but sometimes you just want to rock a good glossy lip. Gloss is majorly in this fall. Not a subtle gloss – a super-shiny, sparkly, ‘look-at-my-lips’ gloss. Rock it over a nude lip or wear on its own, there’s something so girly and fun about a shimmery lip. If you can manage to snag a tube before it gets sold out, the Desi Perkins x LustreLux Over the Top Gloss by Dose of Colors ($15) is incredible (check it out above). Other standouts include Dior’s Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss ($30) and Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb ($18).

Glitter is Good: If you haven’t tried Ciate London’s Glitter Flip ($19) liquid lipstick yet, head to Sephora.com and place your order ASAP. It’s that amazing, and unlike anything else out there. It’s available in wearable nudes and reds, plus striking, unique colors like black and teal. The comfortable formula goes on like a typical liquid lipstick. Apply, let it dry down for a minute, then press your lips together and, voila, it’s a glitter explosion on your lips. So incredibly stunning for a big night out – this takes the phrase ‘statement lip’ to the next level.

A Mod Smoky: There are some major Brigitte Bardot vibes going on with this look Hung Vanngo created, above. A mix of a wing and a smoky eye, it’s sultry, sexy and the perfect fall party look. To get the look, use a creamy black shadow stick and blend, blend, blend. Try Laura Mercier’s extremely blendable Caviar Stick in Tuxedo ($29). For added staying power, go over the look with your favorite powder shadow.

Intergalactic Beauty: Desi Perkins created the out-of-this-world look above using products from the upcoming Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Galaxy Collection for holiday. The new collection drops on October 13th…just a month after the brand initially launched and took the beauty world by storm. This holiday line features lots of glittery teals, blues and purples…striking colors that will ensure all eyes are on you. Get ready to shop this Friday!
